Fuga alla modaby Bradford Wright, October 2018This is a jazzy fugue for soprano, alto, tenor, and great bass recorders with bongo drums accompaniment. I have not run across anything like it in the recorder repertoire. It has a lot of accidentals, but is not particularly hard. A courtesy part for great bass in treble clef is included. There is also a performance suggestion that some groups may be able to use or adapt. Preview Sound SampleDownloadMP3 file
Rondeau vif (ATB) by Anthony St. Pierre, October 2013Of the several adaptations St. Pierre has composed based on movements from Rameau's Pièces de clavecin en concert, this one, from the 5th Concert, is the most audaciously modernized. Harmonies will recall Milhaud and to some extent, Stravinsky. Upper intermediate players will find this score within reach. They may wish to investigate other Rameau adaptations St. Pierre has made available through the ARS. Duration: 1:50Janos Ungvary, Scott Paterson, and the composer play alto, tenor, and bass recorders respectively on the accompanying recording. Preview Sound SampleDownloadMP3 file
Corelli Pastorale From The Concerto Grosso No. 8 Soprano, Alto, Tenor Recorder (Sheet Music) Books P
Last spring, Dr. Alexander asked me for any ideas we might have for the Musick Master's shop. I am writing him, too, and will suggest, for a start: 1.Tabor and pipe (please see the enclosed sheet; Mrs. Molnar assembled this material). The pipes could be made, preferably of wood, as could the tabors. I have an idea the youngsters would go for this, but I'm not so sure of the Mamas!
2.Recorders (English flutes), especially the soprano and perhaps the alto. These could be made here, but a better instrument (a real musical instrument and not a novelty) could be imported.
3.Music books for the recorders, from instruction books for beginners to editions of recorder music. These are on the market, but the instruction book would be more effective if printed in the style of the period.
4.Recordings of some of the best music associated with Colonial Virginia (Purcell, Handel, etc) performed, ideally, by someone of the caliber of Joan Sutherland. She has already recorded "Soldier Tired" from Artaxerxes (please see Discography in back of the Supplementary Report). Other excellent arias and songs which were sung by Maria Storer, Miss (Nancy) Hallam, and Miss Wainwright, could be included. There are a number of harpsichord and instrumental compositions, already recorded, which any of the recording companies might bring out in a new pressing, with the Williamsburg imprint.
5.Please note the enclosed sheet with the information about the Beggar's Opera. The playing cards, and perhaps the fans, screens, etc., may be good ideas, especially if the theater was doing the opera (and I don't see how it could be omitted from an authentic repertoire). Please note, also, the music printed on the theater tickets.
